The picture of my then 23-year-old mother,
at the time she made the journey to Newfoundland -
not certain if the ship is the Aquitania, but it seems fairly likely.

"As far as her occupation is concerned, it's of great interest to us that she was the first woman elected to
municipal council in the town where we grew up (Grand Falls, NL), a position she held for several terms.
She was, in fact, the only woman on council during her tenure."

Irene's maiden name was Brent. She was the elder daughter of Roy Brent (a veteran of Gallipoli) and Hilda (Boman) Brent. She had a younger sister, Margaret (Madge), who predeceased her by several decades and was the last surviving member of the immediate family.
