We had a wonderful reception in Halifax with all the lights
and the Mounties in red uniforms, as Winston Churchill, Guy Gibson VC
(Victoria Cross) and Mary Churchill were on board crossing the Gulf. I
was one of the first war brides in Corner Brook and I didn’t settle in
as I was only 19 and we had to move in with my husband’s family. My husband
and I returned to my home in Edinburgh in 1944 with a baby 8 months old
but returned to Corner Brook in 1952.
