Note of interest: "Her (Evelyn's) sister Mabel married a Newfoundland sailor as well. Samson Button was from Brownsdale, Trinity Bay but he stayed in England and worked the coal mines. He was just as homesick as Mom was and it was 25 plus years before he returned home," Daniel Porter.

"I have been to England several times visiting with family and I can understand how difficult it must have been for her to leave, especially at the age of 20 with a new daughter. My father could only find work in the coal mines after the war and that was something he could not see doing as a career being raised a small boat fisherman. I often think just how difficult it was for Mom to adjust knowing how homesick she was for many years but I am so proud in how she made Newfoundland her new home. During her last days in hospital palitive care she would say she wanted to "go home" and I was never sure if she really meant Southport. Her sister Mabel married a Newfoundland sailor as well. Samson Button was from Brownsdale, Trinity Bay but he stayed in England and worked the coal mines. He was just as homesick as Mom was and it was 25 plus years before he returned home, " Daniel Porter.
