MORRISSEY, Isobel (nee Weltch)

The Morrissey family would like to announce the celebration of life of Isobel Morrissey (nee Weltch). Isobel always felt a deep attachment to her native England (Tynemouth), where she joined the womens Royal Naval Service during the Second World War. She married a handsome sailor, Gerald Morrissey and came to Newfoundland as a War Bride over the stormy North Atlantic in 1945. Isobel and Gerry made their home in Gander where they raised their two sons Raymond and Terence. Marga joined the family as Ray's wife and became very close to her mother-in-law. Nanny shared her love with her two grandchildren Kathryn and Paul. She took them berry picking every summer and spoiled them every chance she could. Isobel took great pride in her involvement with the Royal Canadian Legion where she shared many happy times over the piano with Gerald and their friends. She was always great at caring for others, her wit and sense of humor will be remembered by all the friends and neighbours who were taken under her wing. She could always make us laugh and is world famous for her tea buns. After 54 years of marriage Isobel was predeceased by her husband Gerry. Her memory is cherished by her two sons Ray, Barrie ON, and Terry, Toronto, ON, daughter-in-law Marga, grandchildren Kathryn and Paul, sister Ethel Tailor and her many friends and neighbours. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 11th, at 2 p.m. from St. Martin's Anglican Church, Gander. Donations would be gratefully accepted by the Oncology or Palliative Care Units of the James Paton Memorial Hospital. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the care of Stacey's Funeral Home, Gander.
